THE GREAT BEAUTY

Four months ago — in my case four years ago — one could get a moment of contemplation at the Trevi Fountain only at 5 am. But the achievements in mass tourism of the 20th century became obsolete. Available traveling became unavailable. Just any traveling.

The pandemic narrowed the world to the size of a village — as it was only 100 years ago. Back then the majority of people were living their whole lives without leaving the imaginable square mile they were born at. Besides state officials and diplomats only soldiers who marched through Western Europe and emigrants who alone or along their families have crossed the ocean in pursuit of a dream had a chance to see the world.

I took these pictures at Trevi in April 2016. It’s been only several hours between them. I guess now it’s all serene there at any time of day.
